Butt welding can be divided into two major categories: resistance butt welding and flash butt welding.
Resistance butt welding The welding parts are assembled into butt joints, and the end faces are energized in close contact, and the thermoplastic state is added by resistance heat; then the method of applying the upset force to complete the welding is called resistance butt welding. Whether the pressing force changes during the welding process or not, the resistance butt welding can be divided into two types: equal pressure type and variable pressure type.

Flash butt welding The weldment is assembled into a butt joint. After the power is turned on, the end face is gradually moved closer to the local contact. These contact points are heated by the resistance heat (the flash is generated), and the end face metal is melted, and the straight end is at a certain depth. When the predetermined temperature distribution is reached within the range, the method of rapidly applying the upsetting force to complete the welding is performed. Flash welding is divided into continuous flash welding and preheat flash welding.
